Music and Fads, What's New?
I released some music into the world this week which is a new thing for me, but it got me thinking about fads and creative pursuits in general🤔
Hey all,
I did something a little out of the ordinary this past week and released some music onto all major streaming platforms as an EP.
It’s consists of 3 songs that I wrote and recorded a little over 3 years ago about growing up, losing friends, and many other things. These songs have sat untouched on my computer for pretty much that entire time. I finally came to the realization that I wasn’t going to do anything with them and decided to put them on the internet.
Here’s a link to whatever your streaming platform of choice is.
Music has been a hard for me over the past couple years. All through high school (and a little beyond), music was the creative medium of choice for me. I was even in a band with a good friend of mine.
But music eventually grew stale for me.
I stopped playing music and I stopped listening to music…I lost the joy that I used to find in music, pretty much all together. This was okay though, I found other ways to express myself that I like such as writing and painting.
But over the past couple weeks, I’ve kind of snowballed back into a love for music. It’s not totally unexpected, but what’s interesting is how it happened.
A few weeks ago I played piano for my wife’s grandfather’s memorial service. Nothing too big or fancy, but it got me back in front of piano again for the first time in a long time. Then I started listening to music from this century again. Shortly after I thought about preparing those songs I had on my computer for release, and now I’m back to playing an instrument everyday.
It’s a progression that had a sort of domino effect, and I’m not too sure how or what happened, but I’m excited and happy with my new pursuit.
My real point though, is this:
I go through a lot of fads (read more about that here). Whether it’s writing, painting, designing, music, etc. There are a lot of them.
They come and go, and then come back again unexpectedly. But they never quite disappear for good.
I thought I was done with music. Moved on to other things in life. I’m not upset I pursued other things over the past couple years, music is still just a fun hobby to me. But I am glad I have the option to pick it back up again at this point in my life.
Fads come and go. Sometimes your creative pursuits feel pretty meaningless. But the lessons you learn through them stick around for good.
In other new, I redesigned my personal website (again) this past weekend. here are some screenshots.

Other than that, here’s a few of the things I made this week.
With the new blog, I wanted to try posting some of my paintings as a blog post. That way I can keep all my work in one spot on my website, and it gives me opportunity to write and share a little bit about the piece as well.
Life is always going to suck at least a little bit in one or two areas.
What’s important is that you get your shit straight in all the areas that are important to you.
As always, I hope you all have a wonderful week.
